Complexes of the Schiff base derived from 4 - aminophenyl benzimidazole and 2 , 2 ' - dehydropyrollidene - N - aJdehyde with Zn ( II ) , Cd ( II ) and Hg ( II ) halides

A new SchilT base. dhpyr4apbi, has been synthesized from 4aminopheny l benzimidazo le and 2, 2'dehydropyroll idene-Naldehyde and its co mpl exes with Zn (II). Cd (II ) and Hg (II ) halides have been prepared. Phys icochemical properties of these metal complexes have been in vestigated using elemental analysis. molar conductance. proton NMR and IR measu rements. The complexes are non-e lec trolytes and are dimeric in nature with the empiri cal formui::! M2L2X.j (M = Zn. Cd. Hg: X = CI. Br.). The minimum energy co nfi gurati on has been obta ined for these compl exes using the molecular model Pro Plus. All the compl exes ha ve been screened fo r their biological acti vit ies. The Cd(lI) and Hg(l l) co mplexes show Illoderate an tibacterial act ivity against Pse Ildrll l /01/ as fll /0 resce 1/ S.
